Our society at large is facing multiple challenges. Where to start. No where better than your own roots. Our family roots are in Makkum Fryslan. According to skippers across Fryslan the most important side business of life is skutsjesilen. Based on this metafore, I will share best practices and lessons learned how to manoevre in production through open waters with sunshine and wind in choppy waters.  

Also in production safety first when in doubt everyone can and should raise the red flag. That said, lets go into production. 

• It all starts with leading by example. A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. 

• Listen in training and on the job to the voice of everyone from operators up to senior management, customers and everyone else.

• Keep a close eye and listen. A wise woman once advised me in every dialogue ask them How can I help?

• Give it some time to sink in and ask questions to deepen your dialogue.

• Every now and than a shift falls one or two operators short. The master with 40 years experience comes over and says you can do this. Some last instructions, wishing you good luck and have fun later.

• A few minutes later I am sitting next to the best skipper in town running actual production. Take ownership, face facts and deliver. By far one of my best working days to date. 

• Hats off to our local hero's master and skipper. In addition, shout out to our local team. 

No matter what anybody tells you words and ideas that can change the world.
